Resources for Parents - Q&A

How do we find a Girl Scout troop for our girl?

Come to a local Sign-Up event, sometimes called a 'rally'. You can find our local events on the Home Page of this website.

How do we register our girl to be a Girl Scout? Can parents be members of Girl Scouts, too?

We suggest going to our council's website [gssjc.org] and follow the prompts to 'Join Today' or 'Be a Volunteer' (for adults).

Can my Pre-schooler join Girl Scouts?

Girls members in Girl Scouts attend school while in grades Kindergarten through 12.

We do not have a program for pre-schoolers.

What are the different levels in Girl Scouts?

Girl Scout Daisies are in Kindergarten and grade 1. Girl Scout Brownies are in grades 2 and 3. Girl Scout Juniors are in grades 4 and 5. Girl Scout Cadettes are in grades 6, 7 and 8. Girl Scout Seniors are in grades 9 and 10. Girl Scout Ambassadors are in grades 11 and 12.

Where do we buy a Girl Scout uniform?

GSSJC has several GS shops throughout the Houston Area. The one closest to us is in Stafford.

How do we know where patches go on a uniform?

Here is a convenient tool to view each of the Girl Scout levels' uniforms (from GSUSA). Pictures of each uniform piece show where the patches, badges, pins, etc. are placed.

What is the name of the local council?

Our council is called Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, often referred to as 'GSSJC.' Visit the council's website to find out more about the many counties which are served by GSSJC, activities offered to girls in all levels, and much more.

How do we find out what troop we are in, and what troop number will we have?

Troops are usually formed at the local level - GSSJC calls them 'Communities.' Each community forms troops in whatever way that serves the girls of that area. The volunteer called a 'Placement Specialist' may place girls in a troop once the troop leadership team is established - and will assign a troop number for that specific troop.
